WHAT WAS ONCE WATER BECAME LAND.
An embodied exploration of man-made landmass in the Venetian Lagoon.
This master's thesis explores the relationship between humans and nature in the context of the Anthropocene landscape. The site of the study is Venice and its lagoon. Through embodied research, fieldwork, and performative interventions, the project examines the concept of sacca - a term used to describe artificial land masses formed by the accumulation of various materials. Here, sacca is presented as an example which helps to reimagine constructed environments not as detached or passive elements, but as active spaces reflective of human needs and fears. The project unfolds as a layered, first-person narrative, a patchwork of field notes, reflections, historical references, and visual materials collected in Venice (Italy) and studied in more detail in Linz (Austria) from October 2023 to May 2025.
