KUH/GNU

What future do villages have in the age of cities? What prospects and potentials can rural areas still offer as more and more people move from the countryside to the metropolises? And could a positive “gentrification” help to revitalize villages? The northern Hessian village of Gottsbüren is trying to counteract the depopulation of rural areas with unusual means: by inviting us to use the example of Gottsbüren to study vacancies in the countryside. The aim is the search for the identity of the place and for a possible revival. The year's topic kuh/gnu helped in developing our projects. Some of them were implemented in Gottsbüren, some were developed in the village itself. The performative interventions initiated together with the villagers attract national attention and open up new perspectives for the place. There is also a book.
